Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Training

August 8 – November 8, 2025
Via Zoom: Fridays, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Saturdays, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Mandatory Orientation: June 18, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm or July 10, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

and

January 6 to March 25, 2026
Via Zoom: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Mandatory Orientation: November 20, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm or December 4, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

To Register:

1. Confirm that you meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma/GED (Proof of educational attainment is required for certification)
  • Access to reliable internet connection
  • Lived experience of mental health challenges, substance abuse or family caregivers of same AND
  • Living in recovering for at least six months
  • Agree to Class Participation and Role Play

2. Attend the MANDATORY Zoom Orientation on one of the dates offered.

3. Schedule your in-person readiness interview after attending Orientation.

Our goal is to support empowerment of individuals with the skills needed to create supportive, empathetic, and informed connections. Whether you aim to work in hospitals, clinics, community organizations, or private practice, this training provides the foundation to excel as a Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist.

What is Medi-Cal Peer Support?

Medi-Cal Peer Support involves trained individuals offering emotional, social, and practical assistance to those dealing with:

  • Mental health challenges
  • Substance abuse recovery

By sharing lived experiences and evidence-based strategies, Peer Support Specialists foster hope and resilience while complementing professional healthcare services.

Who Should Enroll?

Our program is open to:

  • Individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges and/or alcohol/substance abuse
  • Family caregivers of those with lived experience of mental health challenges and/or substance abuse

No prior medical background is required, though a commitment to learning and supporting others is essential.
