Become a Senior Peer Counselor

Become a Senior Peer Counselor, a heartfelt opportunity to support your peers.

Are you 55 or older and looking for meaningful ways to give back to your community?
Do you find joy in deep conversation, holding space, and supporting others through life’s ups and downs?

You may be a wonderful fit for our Senior Peer Counseling Program.

We are now recruiting new volunteers for our next training cycle beginning January 2026.
Applications open in September and interviews will take place in November 2025.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Peer Counselor, you’ll offer compassionate, confidential support to other older adults (55+) who may be facing:

  • Isolation or loneliness
  • Grief and loss
  • Health challenges
  • Life transitions and emotional distress

Volunteers provide either:

  • One-on-one support (in person or by phone)
  • Co-facilitate a weekly support group (with additional training & support)

You’ll meet with clients weekly for 12 weeks, offering presence and empathy—not advice or problem-solving. Just your real, caring self.

 What You’ll Learn

Our 35-hour training program (Jan–May 2026) includes:

  • Communication & listening skills
  • Grief and loss
  • Boundaries and ethics
  • Aging and mental health
  • Supportive tools and resources

Training is held in Santa Rosa and via Zoom.

 Commitment & Support

  • 1-year commitment after training
  • Meet with one client per week (1 hour/week)
  • Attend twice-monthly supervision (1st & 3rd Mondays, 10am–12pm)
  • Optional group facilitation with mentorship & support

 We Especially Welcome Volunteers Who:

  • Want to co-facilitate warm, welcoming peer support groups
  • Are collaborative, caring, and great listeners
  • Bring lived experience and curiosity to this work
  • Are ready to support other seniors while continuing to grow themselves

Groups are currently offered in Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, and Sebastopol.

 Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a heart-centered community
  • Receive ongoing training and mentorship
  • Experience personal growth and deep connection
  • Make a meaningful difference in the lives of your peers
