Adult Employment Services

SonomaWORKS is a structured four-week employment and training program developed to meet the needs of Sonoma County residents who receive TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families). Through funding provided by the Sonoma County Human Services Department, the SonomaWORKS program offers a variety of services tailorerd to meet the specific needs of each individual. Focusing on an individual's strengths and highlighting their accomplishments, the services help participants prepare themselves to compete for, obtain, and retain good-paying jobs and to become independent of the welfare system.

West County Community Services offers the SonomaWORKS employment services program as a partner in The Employment Group, a consortium of agencies including Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire, Circuit Rider Productions and Petaluma People Services Center.

This innovative and successful program provides:

  • Job Search skills workshops and individualized assistance
  • Work experience in public and non-profit sectors
  • Support with image-building and self-esteem
  • Interviewing skills and practice
  • Resume writing and application completion skills
  • Cold calling and networking skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Life skills training such as budgeting and money management, organizational skills, time management, stress and anger management and parenting skills.
  • Practical workshops through the County of Sonoma such as basic auto mechanics
  • Voicemail access
