After School Programs

As the lead agency of the Russian River After School Partnership, a collaboration of schools, businesses, government and service organizations, WCCS has been providing comprehensive after school and summer activities for the past four years to approximately 500 elementary and middle school youth. Currently serving four schools along the Russian River waterway we provide a wide range of enriching after school activities.

Staff at the identified schools has formed the After School T.E.A.M. (Teaching Enriching Activities Meaningfully)

The program's mission is to help youth become productive and positive citizens of the world.  Kindergarten through eighth grade students from school sites located in Cloverdale, Windsor, Guerneville and Monte Rio participate.  In these deserving communities, students are provided with homework help, tutoring, snack time and enriching activities after school.  Art, music, photography, gardening, science, dance and gymnastics are examples of the activities led by enthusiastic and highly trained staff.  Several field trips at each school site allow students to enjoy experiences they otherwise might not, including: roller-skating, ice-skating, rock climbing, bowling, bouncy house parties, visits to parks and other schools for pen pal picnics.  We look forward to improving on our already successful programs next year.

Family Literacy

At each site, two large family literacy events are held during the school year.  Dinner, free books, storytellers, authors, illustrators and other entertainment are provided.  In addition, various family literacy programs have been created at each school site:

At Guerneville School, students participate in a Spring Break Literacy Camp where they create bound books, comic books and board games.  At this same site, interested families enjoy a Family History Scrap booking & Computer Class for 10 weeks.

In Monte Rio, the librarian is available on a weekly basis for families to drop in and pick up free books.  They also love their annual Books and Beyond yearlong reading event that culminates in a community celebration with books as prizes.

Cali Calmecac Charter School in Windsor hosted a 10-week Adult Literacy class for English language learning parents.  At the conclusion of the course, families were awarded with a stack of books for the whole family.

At Jefferson Elementary in Cloverdale, the families really appreciated receiving free Spanish books at their family literacy events.
